05 / ENGINEERING NOTES

The OS-2400 is the switch we built to be the core of a mid-size deployment without asking you to compromise. Twenty-four SFP+ ports and four SFP28 uplinks share a 680 Gbps fabric, which means the bandwidth math works out: 24 × 10G plus 4 × 25G is 340 Gbps of port capacity, and the fabric carries double that, full-duplex, with no internal oversubscription. We publish the forwarding rate at 64-byte packets — 506 Mpps — because that is the number that tells you how the switch behaves under small-packet load, not the number that looks best on a slide.

Management is the same surface whether you reach it over the serial console, the out-of-band RJ45, SSH, REST, or SNMP. Configuration applied through one path is visible and identical through the others; there is no hidden web-only state. Layer-3 is deliberately scoped — static routing, OSPFv2, ECMP, and VRRP cover the aggregation and small-core roles this box is sized for. If you need full BGP at the edge, that is the OR-8000’s job, and we will tell you so rather than overselling this one.

The chassis carries dual 250W hot-swap supplies in a 1+1 configuration and three fans in 2+1, all serviceable from the front without downing the switch. Airflow is front-to-back to match hot-aisle layouts. Rated MTBF is 342,000 hours at 25 °C; operating range is 0 °C to 45 °C inlet.

What’s in the box: OS-2400 chassis, two 250W PSUs, two C13 power cords (region-specific), one RJ45-to-DB9 console adapter, OC-RACKKIT-compatible mounting ears, and the quick-deploy card with default-credential and OOB-IP reset instructions. SFP/SFP28 optics and DAC cables are ordered separately — see OF-SFP10.
