They call it the overview effect. For sixty years it was reserved for a few hundred government astronauts. APSIS exists to open that view to the people who will spend the rest of their lives changed by it, and to the science that can only be done once you are there.

From ignition you are pressed into the couch by a little over three times your weight. The horizon flattens, then bows. At max dynamic pressure the vehicle is working hardest and the cabin is loudest, and then the engines cut and the noise simply stops.

At apogee the engines are silent and the planet fills the lower window. You cross an ocean in the time it takes to read this. Sixteen times a day the terminator races toward you and the sun comes up again, gold then white, with no air to soften it.

Two independent life-support loops, a pad-to-orbit abort system that is always armed, and a heat shield rated for ten flights and retired after five. The drama is reserved for the view.
