DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
Reykjavik Arrival
Evening briefing at the base. Kit inspection and cultural orientation. First taste of skyr and fermented shark.
Landmannalaugar
The obsidian and rhyolite highlands. Multicolored mountains — impossible greens and burnt oranges side by side.
Laugavegur Day 1 — Hrafntinnusker
Through fumaroles and snow fields. Steaming vents melt channels in the snowpack. Ice caves nearby.
Laugavegur Day 2 — Álftavatn
Descent to the alpine lake. Geese nesting. Wind from the east. The silence that only uninhabited land has.
Laugavegur Day 3 — Emstrur
Crossing the Bláfjallakvísl glacier river. Cold. Fast. Unforgettable. Lunar landscape of Emstrur.
Þórsmörk
Valley of the gods. Hidden from the rest of Iceland by three glaciers. Rare vegetation in a protected microclimate.
Rest Day / Vatnajökull
Drive to Europe's largest glacier. Ice caving in electric blue chambers. Glacier walking above the void.
East Fjords Drive
Dramatic coastal cliffs. Fishing villages. Puffin colonies at the cliff edge.
Snæfellsjökull
Jules Verne's gateway to the center of the earth. Crater hike on the volcanic summit.
Westfjords — Dynjandi
The cascade of waterfalls that few visitors reach. Seven tiers, widening as they fall.
Westfjords Coast
Remote peninsula hiking. Arctic fox territory. Sea cliffs above the Denmark Strait.
Return to Reykjavik
Debrief, photographs, farewells.
