SINCE 2006 / OUR STORY

The Company
We Keep

"We believe the most important thing a travel company can do is get out of the way — and hire guides who know more than you do about the places you're visiting."

01 / FOUNDED

Punta Arenas, 2006

OVERLAND was founded by Elena Vásquez in 2006 after eight years guiding independently in Patagonia. The company started with a single route — the W Trek — and the principle that small groups change everything.

With five clients maximum per guide (not eight, not twelve), you stop being a group and start being a team. The guide can pay attention to everyone. The pace adapts. The journey becomes personal.

02 / EXPANDING

Eighteen Years,
Six Continents

In 2008 we added Iceland. In 2011, East Africa. The Himalayas joined in 2013 when Rajan Thapa — born in Namche Bazaar, Island Peak certified — became our first Himalayan guide.

We've never added a destination because it's popular. We add it when we find the guide. The guide comes first. The itinerary follows.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Guide First

Every destination starts with finding the right guide — not the right marketing angle. The guide determines the depth of the experience.

Small by Design

Eight people maximum. Not because of regulations — because of quality. Twelve people cannot move through wilderness the same way eight people can.

Honest Difficulty

We don’t soften ratings. A “challenging” expedition is genuinely challenging. We prepare you completely, and we tell you the truth about what the terrain asks of you.

Leave Less

We follow Leave No Trace protocols on every expedition. We work with local conservation organizations at each destination and include a voluntary conservation contribution in every booking.
