Why Restraint Is the Most Radical Design Choice

In an era of maximum stimulation, choosing less is the most provocative thing a studio can do.

Why Restraint Is the Most Radical Design Choice

Everyone is competing for attention. We’re interested in holding it.

There’s a distinction that rarely gets discussed: the difference between catching attention and keeping it. The former is about novelty. The latter is about resonance.

Restraint is not absence. It’s precision — the decision to include only what earns its place. Every element on screen has to answer one question: does this serve the idea, or is it decorating it?

We often arrive at our best work by removing things. The fourth iteration, where half the elements are gone, is almost always stronger than the first.
