Typography as the New Hero

By Sofia Reyes

Typography as the New Hero

The hero image is dying. Not because photography is bad — but because typography has become powerful enough to carry an entire page.

Look at the sites winning Awwwards in 2026. Massive display type at 120-200px. Variable font weights that shift on scroll. Words that ARE the visual identity. The photograph has become secondary.

Why Typography Works as a Hero

Typography communicates before you read it. A heavy geometric sans says "confidence." A delicate serif says "refinement." An irregular display face says "creativity." The font choice IS the first impression.

When you use a 8rem headline as your hero, you are making a statement about confidence. You are saying: we do not need a stock photo to make an impression. Our words are enough.
