Quarterly magazine covers — four portraits of artists across disciplines. Each image: one light source, one subject, one truth.
Voices Magazine commissions four cover portraits per year, each representing a different discipline: visual art, music, literature, and performance. The constraint is the concept — one light source, one subject, one truth.
The constraint forces clarity. With a single source of light, there is nowhere to hide. The subject either holds the frame or does not. Over four sessions across 2024, we photographed a painter, a cellist, a novelist, and a dancer. Each sitting produced hundreds of frames, but the final selection was always the one where the subject forgot the camera was there.
