Deep Hydration Beyond Moisturizer
If your skin feels dry in winter, the answer is not more moisturizer. The answer is a multi-layered hydration strategy that addresses water loss at every level — from the deepest skin layers to the surface barrier.
Layer one: humectants. These molecules attract water from the environment and from deeper skin layers. Hyaluronic acid is the most famous, but glycerin and aloe vera are equally effective and less likely to cause sensitivity.
Layer two: emollients. These soften the spaces between skin cells, creating a smoother surface and improving the skin's ability to retain water. This is where botanical oils like marula and jojoba shine.
Layer three: occlusives. The final seal. A thin barrier that prevents transepidermal water loss. The Twilight Balm serves this role in your evening ritual, locking in everything you have applied beneath it.
The sequence matters. Always apply from thinnest to thickest consistency. And always apply to damp skin — this gives humectants the water they need to do their job.
